Urban Broadband Users in Minnesota

Hi all.  Well, I took a little vacation from this UrbanUsers blog after the taskforce I was appointed to wrapped up.  But now there's the new one -- tasked with keeping an eye on Minnesota's progress toward the goals we laid out in our report.

There's a new group of people on the task force this time around.  Click HERE for Ann Treacy's summary of the inaugural meeting (last month) which includes a short backgrounder on each member.  Hmmm...  Ann notes that the new gang is a little light on the consumer/rural point of view.  So let's help them out! 

Next task force meeting

Date -- Thursday, September 30

Time -- 9am to 3pm  (schmoozing probably starts around 8:30am, I don't know the coffee situation)

This is the standard reminder that the monthly Broadband Task Force meeting is coming up this Friday.  With a new twist.  We're actually using the dang technology!  Woohoo!  I'm not sure whether we're streaming it live on the Internets, but we're making progress.

We're going to be using the State video network to support meeting-locations at six locations around the state.  Click HERE to see the agenda for Friday's meeting.  The second page shows the locations and gives driving instructions.

Tell your friends who are interested in rural broadband about those non-metro locations.  They're a lot easier for people to get to, and they're all open to the public, so come on down.

NOTE -- we're NOT meeting in the Eagan firehouse location this time.  I'm going to head over to the Metro State library location in St Paul.

The focus of the meeting this time is a series of presentations by providers.  We're going to hear from panels of telephone companies, cable companies and wireless providers plus an expert type person.

Here's where I need your help.  Post your "tough questions for providers" in the comments before 6am tomorrow (Friday) morning and I'll ask them during the meeting.  After 6am, you can still send me questions, but you'll have to email them to me because I'll be away from the web but my Blackberry will be on.
